President Akufo-Addo has announced affordable housing packages for teachers and this could improve the conditions of service of teachers. The package includes both rental and mortgage packages. He revealed this during the 6th Quadrennial Delegates Conference of the Ghana National Association of Teachers (GNAT).
A very important factor that determines the attractiveness of a profession is conditions of service.
Over the years, teachers in Ghana have agitated over poor conditions of service among other issues that make the profession unattractive.
I am of the opinion that the affordable housing, if implemented properly, will be very beneficial to the Ghanaian teacher. This initiative could pave way to others like affordable vehicle packages.
If this initiative does not follow the pattern of the one teacher one laptop initiative which led to several agitations and court actions, teachers will be thrilled to benefit from it and that will improve the current worse conditions of service of teachers.
