Akufo-Addo appoints Dr Eric Nkansah as acting Director General of GES

Dr. Eric Nkansah has been appointed as the acting Director-General of the Ghana Education Service following dismissal of Prof. Opoku-Amankwa.

The new appointment was revealed in a letter from the Office of the President dated 19th October, 2022.

“Pursuant to Section 19(1), (2) (a) and (b) of the Pre-Tertiary Education Act, 2020 (Act 1049), I am pleased to inform you that the President has appointed you to act as the Director-General of the Ghana Education Service pending receipt of the required constitutionally advice of the governing council”

According to the letter, the appointment is effective 19th October, 2022.

Who is Dr. Eric Nkansah?

Dr. Eric Nkansah, before his appointment as the acting Director-General of GES, was the Director in charge of Tertiary Education at the Ministry of Education.

He was a senior lecturer at the Kumasi Technical University for over eight years and contributed immensely to teaching, research, programme development and community service. He later joined the Ministry of Education in April 2021.

Dr. Eric Nkansah also worked as the Executive Director of Career Spring Institute, which is a firm that provides training to members and potential members of local and international professional programmes.

Prior to joining Kumasi Technical University and Career Spring Institute, he worked at Barclays Bank of Ghana (Absa) for over six years and rose through the ranks to the position of Sales Manager.
