The National Teaching Council (NTC) is set to issue license and registration numbers to qualified in-service teachers as part of the Teacher professionalization process.
In a letter from the National Teaching Council, and obtained on the Mickinet Systems Online Platform, the NTC will begin licensing and registration of qualified teachers in active service on May 2021.
NTC opened a portal in March 2020 purposely for this important exercise. In this regard, all qualified teachers who were employed before September 1, 2018 are to log in to Teacher Portal Ghana to update their details. Those haven’t created an account on the portal are to do so before May 7, 2021. Qualified teachers here refers to teachers who have been trained and certified by accredited institutions that train teachers.
However, teachers who were employed after August 31, 2018 are required to pass the Ghana Teacher Licensure Examination to obtain the license and registration number. Afterwards, their provisional license obtained after the Examination would be replaced with a full license during the exercise.
Qualified teachers who fail to take part in the licensing shall not be allowed to practise as teachers in Ghana in accordance with Section 64 (1) of the Education Regulatory Bodies Act, 2020, Act 1023.
